The Nordlandsbanen railway in Norway is facing a severe crisis due to a lack of functional locomotives.
Following a fatal train accident in October 2024, the railway has struggled to maintain operations with its aging fleet of 45-year-old locomotives.
Efforts to lease replacement trains have failed, as the only available options were older and unsuitable for passenger service.
This has left the railway unable to meet demand, causing frustration among passengers and local officials.
Critics are calling for urgent action from the government, including reallocating resources from other rail lines.
However, new trains are not expected until 2029, leaving the future of the Nordlandsbanen uncertain.
