The Norwegian railway system is under scrutiny as recent reports highlight persistent operational issues despite significant financial investments.
The Riksrevisjonen's latest report criticizes Bane Nor for failing to improve the railway's operational stability, costing society an estimated 600 million kroner annually.
Despite receiving substantial funding for maintenance and infrastructure, the railway's performance remains unsatisfactory.
The Jernbanedirektoratet's report further underscores a decline in service reliability since the pandemic, with 2024 marked as particularly challenging.
In response, the government and Bane Nor are prioritizing maintenance and implementing new information measures, such as platform screens and "bus for train" solutions, to address these issues.
However, the path to a stable and punctual railway system is expected to be a long-term endeavor.
