A recent train derailment on the Nordlandsbanen has significantly disrupted salmon transport in Norway, doubling costs for exporters.
The accident, caused by a rockslide, has left the country divided, with both the E6 highway and the railway closed south of Mo i Rana.
This has severely impacted the aquaculture industry, as trains from Narvik, a major route for salmon from Finnmark, Troms, and northern Nordland, are halted.
Marcus Johansen from Fram Seafood describes the situation as challenging, with some transporters increasing prices by over 100%.
The closure has forced exporters to find alternative routes, causing delays and additional expenses.
Efforts to clear the site are ongoing, but safety concerns have slowed progress, as further rock movements have been detected.
