Norway Considers Border Fence with Russia

The Norwegian government is contemplating the construction of a high fence along its border with Russia, inspired by Finland's recent efforts to enhance border security.

Justice Minister Emilie Enger Mehl has expressed interest in Finland's 200-kilometer fence, which includes sensors and technology to detect movement near the border.

This initiative aims to deter illegal crossings and enhance surveillance.

The proposal has received support from Finnmark's police chief, Ellen Katrine Hætta, who believes a fence could prevent unauthorized entries.

While illegal crossings are rare, the government is prepared to implement various measures, including increased staffing and monitoring at the Storskog border station, to manage border traffic effectively.
