Norway is debating increased NATO military activity near its border with Russia.
Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide has expressed openness to allowing NATO exercises in East Finnmark, a move welcomed by Norway’s defense chief but opposed by the local Labour Party.
Meanwhile, the Conservative Party (Høyre) is considering building a fence along the 192-kilometer border with Russia to enhance security.
Høyre leader Erna Solberg emphasized the need for thorough evaluation of such measures, citing concerns over Russia’s growing aggression.
These discussions reflect Norway’s heightened focus on border security and its strategic position in the Arctic amidst rising tensions with Russia.
