Norway Monitors Russian Naval Exercise

Published: 2024-09-11

In recent days, Norway has been closely monitoring Russian military activities near its borders.

The Norwegian corvette KNM "Storm" has been tracking a group of three Russian vessels from the Baltic Fleet sailing west of Norway in international waters.

This movement is part of Russia's large-scale naval exercise, Ocean-2024, which involves heightened activity from both the Northern and Baltic Fleets, as well as long-range aircraft.

As part of this exercise, several Russian Tu 160 bombers flew over the Barents and Norwegian Seas, prompting Norway to dispatch F-35 jets to identify and document the aircraft, ensuring they did not enter Norwegian airspace.

The Norwegian Armed Forces emphasize that these are routine procedures, having conducted similar operations 32 times last year for NATO.

The exercise, involving over 90,000 soldiers, 400 vessels, and 125 aircraft, is set to continue until September 16.
