Two new police stations have opened in Agder, Norway, in the towns of Åseral and Kvinesdal, marking a significant step in enhancing local security and preventive measures.
The Justice and Emergency Management Minister, Emilie Mehl, attended the opening ceremonies, highlighting the importance of these stations in strengthening the region's resilience.
Despite initial skepticism from Police Chief Kjerstin Askholt, she now expresses satisfaction with the fully funded project, emphasizing its role in bolstering the vulnerable western region.
The stations will operate two days a week, focusing on community interaction rather than high visitor numbers.
Local leaders, including Åseral's Mayor Inger Lise Lund Stulien, stress the importance of police proximity for youth and community safety.
The initiative is part of a broader government plan to establish ten new service locations in 2024, aiming for effective collaboration with local communities rather than maximizing foot traffic.
