Norway Boosts Crime Fight with $2.8 Billion

Published: 2024-09-16

The Norwegian government has announced a significant investment of 2.8 billion kroner to combat crime in 2025. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre emphasized the need for a strong presence in areas plagued by violence and drug trafficking, drawing parallels to crime trends seen in Sweden.

The funding will enhance police operations, with 2.4 billion kroner allocated to increase police staffing and capabilities.

Additionally, 90 million kroner will target economic crime, focusing on seizing illegal profits and combating money laundering and corruption.

Efforts to address youth crime are also prioritized, with plans to double the capacity of youth detention centers and implement faster judicial processes for young offenders.

The government will invest 100 million kroner in preventive measures within schools to tackle gang-related activities and ensure safer educational environments.

This comprehensive approach aims to curb the rising tide of crime and ensure community safety across Norway.
