On Wednesday afternoon, a significant technical glitch disrupted over 60 municipal websites across Norway.
The issue, which affected municipalities such as Harstad, Ibestad, and Tjeldsund, was linked to a network problem confirmed by Global Connect, the internet provider for Custom Publish, a company supplying publishing solutions to around 100 municipalities.
The disruption was first noticed around 4 PM and has since been resolved, restoring normal functionality to the affected sites.
In response to the outage, some municipalities, like Ibestad, utilized social media platforms as temporary communication channels, providing contact numbers for residents needing assistance.
While the exact cause of the network failure remains unclear, the incident highlights the critical dependency on digital infrastructure for municipal operations.
