Four Norwegian skiers have tragically died in a massive avalanche in the French Alps, local authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred in the Val-Cenis area near the Italian border, where a group of seven skiers was caught in the snow.
Despite being well-equipped with avalanche detectors, four members of the group were buried and did not survive.
Rescue teams, including 20 personnel and search dogs, worked tirelessly, but the victims could not be saved.
The avalanche risk in the region was rated as significant, following heavy snowfall in recent days.
Norwegian officials are working to confirm the identities of the deceased.
This tragedy highlights the ongoing dangers of avalanches, even as climate change alters snow patterns in the Alps.
