The Bergensbanen railway line between Voss and Myrdal has been closed due to a freight train derailment, causing significant disruptions in train services between Oslo and Bergen.
The derailment, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, damaged approximately 5000 sleepers over a three-kilometer stretch of track.
Bane Nor, the railway infrastructure company, is working to assess the full extent of the damage and estimates that 1700-1800 sleepers need replacement.
The line is expected to remain closed for several days, with updates promised by Saturday noon.
Passengers are advised to seek alternative travel methods, as bus and taxi availability is limited.
Vy, the train operator, has confirmed no injuries were reported from the incident, which occurred at low speed.
The disruption also affects postal services, with delays expected for packages transported over the mountain route.
