A tragic accident occurred in Stokmarknes, Nordland, when a car plunged into the sea on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services, including a helicopter from Tromsø, responded swiftly to the scene after receiving a distress call at 16:43. Despite the rapid response and life-saving efforts by local firefighters and divers, the driver could not be saved.

Police have confirmed that no other individuals were in the vehicle and are currently investigating the cause of the accident.

The local mayor, Kjell-Børge Freiberg, has activated the municipal crisis team to support those affected by the incident.
