Nicolai Tangen has made a significant acquisition for Kunstsilo in Kristiansand, purchasing 333 works of Norwegian and Nordic modernism for 240 million kroner.

This purchase, from businessman Stein Erik Hagen's Canica collection, will enhance the Tangen collection, bringing it to nearly 6000 pieces.

The artworks, dating from 1910 to 1980, will be displayed at Kunstsilo starting in 2026. Tangen's acquisition focuses on complementing the existing collection with relevant pieces, excluding works by Edvard Munch and some of Canica's more erotic art.

The move has been praised for making significant art accessible to the public, ensuring these works remain in Norway.

The purchase underscores Tangen's commitment to enriching the cultural landscape of Kristiansand.
