A rockslide on the E18 highway near Hvalstad in Asker has caused significant traffic delays, with travel times extending to over 1.5 hours from Oslo to Hvalstad, compared to the usual 17 minutes.
The incident, which occurred at midnight on Monday, led to the closure of one lane, exacerbating the afternoon rush hour congestion.
Traffic operator Arvid Wahlstrøm from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration reported that the right lane remains closed for necessary geological safety work, expected to be completed by evening.
The congestion has also impacted local roads in Bærum and Asker, with commuters experiencing delays of up to two hours.
However, by 9 PM, traffic conditions began to normalize as safety measures progressed, promising a smoother commute by Tuesday morning.
