Record Fundraiser for Child Dementia Research

Published: 2025-04-07

A record-breaking fundraiser has collected over 19 million kroner to support research into childhood dementia, a rare and incurable disease.

The campaign, led by 13-year-old Syver Blindheim and his family, concluded Sunday night with 17 million kroner raised via Spleis and an additional 2.15 million through Vipps.

Schools across Norway also joined the effort, creating their own fundraisers.

Syver, who was diagnosed with childhood dementia (JNCL) and lost his sight in second grade, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support.

The funds will enable researchers, led by NTNU professor Magnar Bjørås, to accelerate their search for a cure.

"This gives us hope and a real boost for research," said Syver's family.

Syver's journey has been featured in the NRK series "Team Pølsa," which highlights the lives of young people with disabilities.

The campaign's success has inspired many and set a new benchmark for community-driven fundraising.
