Parking Woes at Oslo University Hospital

Published: 2024-08-05

Oslo University Hospital (OUS) is set to reduce parking spaces by nearly 1,000 by 2031, leading to increased parking fees for employees.

Starting August 1, staff will face a 40% hike in parking costs, raising daily fees from 58 to 82 NOK.

Many employees, like nurse Lene Edvardsen, express frustration, citing high living costs and inadequate public transport options, especially for night shifts.

OUS director Geir Teigstad defends the increase, emphasizing environmental concerns and the need to align with Oslo's parking norms.

However, union representatives argue that the hike is unreasonable, especially for those who rely on cars to reach work.

A petition against the fee increase has already garnered 1,200 signatures, reflecting widespread discontent among staff.
