Nurses Struggle in Norway's Housing Market

Published: 2024-08-13

A recent report highlights the growing challenges faced by nurses in Norway's housing market.

The 2024 Nurse Index reveals that a single nurse can afford only 2.4% of homes in Oslo, a stark contrast to the 31.4% they can afford nationwide.

This marks a slight decrease from last year, underscoring the persistent difficulties in the housing sector.

Nurse student Siril Berg expresses her frustration, noting that the dream of living in Oslo seems increasingly unattainable.

While some cities like Tromsø and Bodø show improvement, Oslo's market remains stagnant.

Berg, who currently rents in Kristiansand, may have to settle there, where she can afford nearly half of the available homes.

The report calls attention to the disparity in housing affordability across Norwegian cities, highlighting the need for better support for essential workers like nurses.
