Bergen's Public Transport Fares Rise Again

Published: 2024-08-03

Starting August 1, 2024, public transport fares in Vestland County, Norway, will see a significant increase.

The price for a single adult ticket will rise from 44 to 47 kroner, while children's tickets will increase from 22 to 24 kroner.

This marks the second fare hike this year, with the previous increase occurring in February.

As a result, Bergen now has the highest single ticket price among major Norwegian cities, surpassing Stavanger.

Many passengers express understanding of the need for higher fares due to rising operational costs, but there are concerns about the impact on low-income individuals.

The local government attributes the fare increase to inflation and higher costs for staff and fuel, emphasizing that frequency of service remains a priority for users.
