In response to threat assessments by the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST), a national arming of police officers will be implemented during the holiday season from December 20 to January 2, 2025. Although there are no specific threats, the Police Directorate has decided to arm officers to ensure optimal preparedness during religious holidays.

This decision aims to enhance security and provide a rapid response capability, especially as religious gatherings are considered potential terror targets.

Citizens may notice an increased presence of visible and armed police, but are encouraged to celebrate the holidays as usual.

The measure is seen as preventive and aims to reassure the public during a time when many gather for various religious events.
