Norway is on the brink of a historic decision to allow general police armament.
The Conservative Party (Høyre), led by Erna Solberg, recently voted in favor of the measure, citing increased threats and changing crime patterns.
This marks a significant shift, as 11 out of 12 police chiefs now support the move.
The Christian Democratic Party (KrF) has also reversed its stance, securing a likely majority in Parliament for the proposal.
While proponents argue it equips police to handle modern threats, critics, including the Socialist Left Party (SV), warn of increased risks and question the societal impact.
The debate highlights a pivotal moment in Norway's approach to public safety.
