Norway Braces for Severe Flood Threat

Published: 2024-09-08

Norway is on high alert as significant rainfall is expected to hit parts of Østlandet and Trøndelag, prompting an orange flood warning from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE).

The forecast predicts 60-80 mm of rain within a day, raising concerns about potential flooding and landslides.

Farmers, still recovering from last year's extreme weather event "Hans," are rushing to harvest crops before the anticipated deluge.

The situation is particularly tense in areas like Gudbrandsdalen, where past infrastructure changes have exacerbated flood risks.

Authorities are urging residents to stay informed and prepare for possible road closures and property damage.

The Meteorological Institute will reassess the warning level on Monday, with the possibility of upgrading it to red, indicating extreme weather conditions.
