Southern Norway is bracing for severe weather as authorities issue warnings for potential floods and landslides.
The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) has announced an orange alert for flooding and landslides in regions including Vestland, Rogaland, Agder, Telemark, and Buskerud, effective from the night of October 31 to the morning of November 1. Heavy rainfall, with expected precipitation of 100-150 mm in some areas, is anticipated to cause rapid water level rises in rivers, leading to possible extensive flooding and erosion damage.
Residents are advised to avoid steep slopes and riverbanks with high water flow.
The situation is compounded by already high groundwater levels, increasing the risk of landslides and flood damage in vulnerable areas.
