Molotov Cocktail Attack on Oslo Palace

Published: 2024-09-18

A Belarusian man in his 50s has been sentenced to six months in prison after admitting to throwing two Molotov cocktails at the Royal Palace in Oslo.

The incident, which occurred in July, was an act of desperation, according to the man, who mistakenly believed he was targeting the Norwegian Parliament.

No injuries were reported, although a fire was briefly ignited at one of the palace's entrances.

The man, who is also wanted in the Netherlands, expressed remorse in court, apologizing to the Norwegian public for his actions.

The court considered his poor health and the regret he showed when determining the sentence, which was less than the prosecution's request of eight months.

The man has accepted the sentence and expressed a desire to move past the incident.
