Ingvild Kjerkol has announced her decision to step down as leader of Trøndelag Arbeiderparti (Ap) after the party's annual meeting in March.
Kjerkol, who has led the regional party for five years, cited her desire to pursue a life outside politics after 30 years as an elected official.
Her decision follows her loss in the nomination battle for a parliamentary seat last fall, where Bente Estil was chosen as the top candidate instead.
Kjerkol emphasized the need for Trøndelag Ap to rebuild and prepare for the upcoming election campaign.
She also refrained from publicly supporting party leader Jonas Gahr Støre, stating that the party must decide its future direction.
Kjerkol plans to transition to a civilian career after her departure.
