Holmenkollen's Quiet Transformation

Published: 2025-03-16

This year’s Holmenkollen Ski Festival marked a significant shift from its rowdy past.

Traditionally known for its vibrant "femmila" race and wild celebrations, the event saw major changes due to snowscarcity and efforts to curb excessive partying.

The iconic 50-kilometer race was replaced with shorter distances, and stricter alcohol regulations were enforced in Kapellskogen, aiming to create a family-friendly atmosphere.

Attendance plummeted from 30,000 last year to just 6,000, leaving the venue unusually quiet.

While some attendees missed the lively "Kollen-stemning," others appreciated the focus on sportsmanship and safety.

Organizers hope for better snow and a return to tradition next year.
