Greta Thunberg Joins Protest Against Norwegian Gas Facility

Published: 2024-08-24

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has joined forces with Extinction Rebellion (XR) to protest against Equinor's gas and oil processing facility at Kårstø in Tysvær, Norway.

The activists aim to shut down the facility, which is one of Europe's largest onshore gas and oil processing plants.

XR has deployed eight kayaks and three motorboats into the security zone to disrupt operations, while activists on land block the facility's entrances.

This marks Thunberg's first protest against Norwegian oil and gas, highlighting the urgent need for a plan to phase out fossil fuels.

Equinor geologist Daniel Sollien, participating in the protest, expressed concern for his children's future and called for immediate action from Equinor and politicians.

Despite the protest, Equinor reports that the facility continues to operate normally, while police engage in dialogue with the activists.
