Violence in Oslo Schools Surges

Published: 2025-02-24

Reports of violence and threats against school staff in Oslo have reached record levels, with 7,835 incidents recorded in 2024. A new reporting system has made it easier for staff to report incidents, revealing a 39% increase compared to 2023. Most incidents involve younger children aged 6-12, with many cases occurring in special schools and groups.

While most incidents are minor, 182 were classified as critical, leading to significant physical or psychological harm.

Teachers and assistants, particularly in primary schools, report feeling unsafe and unsupported.

Oslo’s education authorities have introduced a new action plan and mandatory training to address the issue, but many staff remain concerned about their safety and well-being.
