Oslo Budget Drama Ends in Agreement

Published: 2024-12-11

After days of intense negotiations and political drama, the Oslo city council has finally approved the budget for 2025. The breakthrough came when the Progress Party (Frp) and the Christian Democratic Party (KrF) decided to support the latest budget proposal, ensuring a majority.

This decision followed a tumultuous period marked by a surprise budget proposal from the Conservative Party (Høyre) and the Liberal Party (Venstre), which initially failed to secure enough support.

The approved budget includes significant changes, such as an increased cut in property tax and additional funding for elder care.

The day also saw a failed no-confidence vote against Culture Commissioner Anita Leirvik North, allowing her to continue in her role.

The resolution of these issues marks the end of a politically charged period in Oslo's city governance.
