Norway's coalition government has collapsed after a heated dispute over EU energy directives.
The Labour Party (Ap), led by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, supported adopting three parts of the EU's energy package, citing climate goals and energy security.
However, the Centre Party (Sp), led by Trygve Slagsvold Vedum, opposed the move, fearing it would tie Norway too closely to EU policies and raise electricity prices.
The disagreement led Sp to formally exit the government, leaving Ap to govern alone for the first time in 25 years.
The split also exposed internal power struggles within Ap, with some members reportedly using the energy debate to challenge Støre's leadership.
Despite the turmoil, both parties have pledged to cooperate in Parliament on key issues.
