Norway is facing a looming crisis as the number of dementia patients is expected to double by 2050, yet half of the country's municipalities admit they are not prepared to handle this increase.
A survey conducted by Sentio Research for the National Association for Public Health reveals that many municipalities lack the necessary infrastructure and resources to support the growing number of dementia patients.
This has raised concerns among health officials and families, who fear that without immediate action, the burden will fall heavily on relatives.
Currently, nine out of ten municipalities rely on increased support from family members, which is unsustainable as many caregivers are already overwhelmed.
The situation is expected to become a significant issue in upcoming political campaigns, with calls for better coordination between municipalities and families to ensure adequate care for dementia patients.
