Norway Secures Major Missile Deal with Australia

Published: 2024-09-05

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has secured a significant contract to supply Joint Strike Missiles (JSM) for Australia's F-35 fighter jets, marking a major milestone for Norwegian defense technology.

The deal, valued at one billion kroner, was announced during the opening of a new Kongsberg facility in Adelaide, Australia, attended by Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram and his Australian counterpart, Pat Conroy.

This facility will be the first outside Norway to produce JSM and NSM missiles, highlighting the strong defense ties between Norway and Australia.

The Australian government has invested heavily in Norwegian defense products, including the NSM and Nasams air defense systems.

Minister Gram emphasized the importance of international collaboration for the Norwegian defense industry, noting that such partnerships enhance global security and strengthen Norway's defense capabilities.

This development comes amid growing geopolitical tensions, underscoring the strategic importance of robust defense alliances.
