Massive Fire Destroys Ørland Store

A massive fire engulfed a 3000-square-meter commercial building in Brekstad, Ørland, early Saturday morning.

The building, housing Jysk and Rema 1000 stores, was completely destroyed despite extensive firefighting efforts.

Over 30 residents from 25 nearby apartments were evacuated as a precaution, with no injuries reported.

Authorities advised locals to keep windows closed due to heavy smoke, and roadblocks were set up to limit traffic in the area.

The fire, which started in the Jysk section, spread rapidly due to flammable materials, causing the structure to collapse.

By mid-morning, the fire was under control, and the risk of spreading to adjacent buildings was eliminated.

Evacuees were temporarily housed at Ørland Kysthotell, though shifting winds later directed smoke toward the hotel.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
