Kristian Frisvold, the mayor of Lom, has resigned from the Conservative Party (Høyre) after more than 40 years of membership.
His decision comes in response to the party's involvement in closing several rural schools in Innlandet, including Lom High School.
The closures were decided by a narrow majority in the county council, consisting of the Labour Party, the Green Party, and the Conservatives.
Frisvold expressed his discontent with the party's direction, stating he no longer wishes to support their actions.
Despite his resignation, Frisvold will continue his role as mayor, as he was elected under the Bygdelista party.
The school closures have sparked significant controversy and debate within the region.
