Heavy Snowfall Hits Southern Norway

Published: 2024-12-21

A yellow weather warning has been issued for the mountains in Southern Norway, with up to 50 cm of snow expected in the next 24 hours.

The snowline is set at 400–600 meters above sea level, and strong southwesterly winds are likely to cause snowdrift, reducing visibility and potentially leading to road closures and convoy driving.

The affected areas include western mountain regions from Sirdal to Røldal, Voss, and Sogndal, extending further north.

Travelers are advised to allow extra time, use appropriate tires, and drive cautiously.

The Meteorological Institute warns that the snowy conditions could persist until Christmas Eve, urging preparedness for those heading to mountain cabins or traveling for the holidays.
