Extreme Weather 'Jakob' Triggers Evacuations

In Øvre Årdal, a rescue operation is underway due to severe flooding caused by extreme weather "Jakob.

" Late Thursday night, residents in Sitlevegen and Røtisvegen were evacuated, affecting around 100 people from 25 households, along with the Sitla Hotel.

The police, coordinating with the fire department and Norwegian People's Aid, are leading the operation.

Although the river levels have slightly decreased, continuous assessments are being made regarding further evacuations.

The evacuees are currently sheltered at a local youth center.

Additionally, about 160 households in Seimsdalen and Offerdal are without power, and County Road 53 remains closed due to landslides, disrupting all bus routes until further notice.

Fortunately, no injuries or missing persons have been reported.
