Tourist Traffic Crisis in Northern Norway

Published: 2024-07-22

This summer, Northern Norway is facing a severe tourist traffic crisis, particularly in Rødøy municipality.

The Jektvik ferry terminal has been overwhelmed with tourists, leading to long queues and frustration among both locals and visitors.

Recently, around 100 camper vans were stranded overnight at the terminal due to the last ferry's departure.

The situation has worsened as a ferry's midday break has caused significant delays, with queues stretching over a kilometer.

Local officials, including Mayor Inger Monsen, are calling for more ferry departures and adjustments to the current schedule to alleviate the congestion.

Additionally, the lack of mobile coverage at the terminal complicates communication for travelers, further exacerbating the issue.

Authorities are in discussions to find solutions, but immediate improvements are needed to enhance the travel experience in this popular tourist region.
