The Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) has determined that the Stavanger Labour Party violated privacy laws by sending political emails to parents of children in after-school care and kindergarten.
The emails, sent during last year's election campaign, were perceived as political advertising and prompted numerous complaints from parents.
Datatilsynet has issued a preliminary warning to the party, highlighting two main issues: failure to provide necessary information to the parents and lack of legal grounds for using the parents' contact information.
Party leaders have acknowledged the warning and expressed their commitment to comply with regulations moving forward.
The final decision from Datatilsynet is expected after the party submits its response by August 23.
