Severe Thunderstorm Strikes Trøndelag

Published: 2024-08-25

A severe thunderstorm hit Trøndelag, Norway, on Sunday, August 25, 2024, prompting a yellow weather warning from the meteorological service, Yr.

The storm brought intense lightning and hailstones the size of sugar cubes, particularly affecting areas like Trondheim.

At Elgsethytta in Trondheim, around 40 people sought shelter from the sudden downpour and hail, with some describing the experience as painful.

Hilde Benjaminsen, who has worked in the area for a decade, noted that she had never seen such weather before.

The storm, characterized by rapid lightning activity, is expected to move northward towards southern Nordland and eventually into Sweden.

Residents are advised to disconnect electrical appliances and avoid open fields and large trees during the storm.
