Norway's Competition Authority has fined major grocery chains Coop, Norgesgruppen, and Rema 1000 a total of 4.9 billion kroner for illegal price collusion.
The chains allegedly used 'price hunters' to share pricing information, leading to higher consumer prices.
Despite the fines, the chains deny any wrongdoing and plan to appeal the decision.
Consumers express relief that the issue is being addressed, with many feeling deceived by the chains' practices.
The authority's investigation revealed that the chains' rapid price adjustments reduced competition, ultimately harming consumers.
This case highlights the significant influence these chains have over the Norwegian grocery market, controlling 95% of it.
