A temporary doctor at the University Hospital of Northern Norway (UNN) has been suspended after it was discovered he spent only seconds reviewing X-ray results, potentially endangering patients.
Over a period from December 2021 to August 2023, he was involved in 560 examinations, with serious errors found in 12 cases, including the oversight of a 3.5 cm pancreatic tumor.
Five patients have died, although no direct link has been established between the missed findings and their deaths.
The case has raised alarms across Scandinavia, with health authorities in Norway, Denmark, and Sweden now investigating the doctor.
UNN has reported the matter to the County Governor and is reviewing all cases he handled, emphasizing the need for thorough patient safety measures.
