Critical Accident Shuts Down Byfjordtunnelen

A severe traffic accident involving a head-on collision has led to the closure of the Byfjordtunnelen near Stavanger.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon, left one person critically injured and another seriously hurt.

Both victims have been transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The accident has caused significant traffic congestion, with authorities implementing manual traffic regulation and alternative routes.

The Byfjordtunnelen and Mastrafjordtunnelen were initially closed, but the latter has since reopened.

Ferry services are being rerouted to accommodate the disruption, with departures now scheduled from Arsvågen to Mekjarvik.

Police and forensic teams are on-site conducting investigations, and the tunnel is expected to remain closed for several hours.
