Couple Rescued After Climbing Mistakes

Published: 2024-08-07

Last week, a couple from Drammen, Per Gustav Wesseltoft and Heidi Helgerud, faced a life-threatening situation while climbing Store Skagastølstind.

After making two critical mistakes—leaving behind essential gear and failing to check the weather—they became trapped in severe conditions for over 30 hours.

Fortunately, a team of volunteer climbers from the Norwegian Alpine Rescue Groups reached them just in time, providing warmth and food.

The couple, who are experienced climbers, now hope to share their story to help others avoid similar dangers.

Experts emphasize the importance of carrying a mountain blanket, planning for unexpected overnight stays, and being aware of weather changes.

They urge climbers to practice their skills and always be prepared for emergencies in the mountains.
