The spread of the deadly bluetongue virus in Rogaland and Agder has led to the cancellation of all sheep-related events at the Bjerkreimsmarken agricultural fair.
The virus, which primarily affects sheep and cattle, has been detected in 33 herds across Agder, Rogaland, and Østfold.
The disease is transmitted by biting midges and poses a significant threat to livestock, with a mortality rate of up to 30%.
In response, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority has implemented measures to contain the outbreak, including restrictions on the movement of breeding animals and the establishment of a control zone.
Farmers are urged to keep susceptible animals indoors to prevent further spread.
The situation has caused considerable concern among farmers, as the virus has not been seen in Norway since 2009.
